Revisiting the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Roster

It's now 2023 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a team to be reckoned with. But, let's take a look back at the 2002 Buccaneers roster. That season the Bucs went 12-4, winning the NFC South and making it all the way to the NFC Championship game.

The Buccaneers were led by head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Brad Johnson. Johnson, who was acquired in a trade with the Washington Redskins prior to the season, passed for 3,049 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was backed up by Rob Johnson and Shane Matthews.

Wide receivers Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardell, and Joe Jurevicius were some of the top targets for the Bucs. Running backs Michael Pittman and Aaron Stecker combined for 1,631 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Tampa Bay defense was led by renowned defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. It was one of the top units in the league, finishing first in the NFL in total defense. The Bucs defense was led by linebacker Derrick Brooks, who had an incredible season with five interceptions and three sacks.

The 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster was a roster full of talent and determination. They were a team that went all the way to the NFC Championship game, and while they fell short of the Super Bowl, their season was one that will never be forgotten.
